Position Paper Requirements
Position Papers are required of all delegates that wish to be eligible for committee or research awards. Any delegations requesting special accommodations must do so by sending your committee an email.
Position Papers must adhere to the following formatting guidelines:
Position Papers should be no less than one page and no greater than three pages (unless otherwise specified by your chair). The bibliography does not count towards the page limit. The papers should feature five sections:
1. Topic Background
2. Past International/UN action
3. Country Policy
4. Possible Solutions (This is the most important part!)
5. Sources (MLA)
Please do not feel the need to necessarily fill up three pages. Papers will be evaluated on the grounds of quality rather than empirical length.
Here is an example position paper.
Double delegations should submit only one paper across both delegates.
Submission:
Please email your position paper to your committee's email address which will be included in the committee background guide.
The due date for all position papers is October 20th, 2023. You must submit a paper to be eligible for any committee award. To be considered for a research award, your paper must be submitted by October 14th, 2023.
Position Papers must adhere to the following formatting guidelines:
- Times New Roman font, 12 pt. size, double-spaced
- 1" margins on all sides
- Delegate Country/Individual, Committee Name, School Name, and the text "GMUNC IX" must be present in the header
- Please do not include the student's [your] actual name in the paper. Given the close proximity of attending schools as well as the presence of Gunn delegates, anonymity is paramount.
- An MLA reference list at the end of the position paper. The list should be alphabetized as per MLA custom and does not count toward the page limits
- Sent in standard PDF format
